Pregnancy Tips

Pregnancy Tips
Being pregnant is the most ecstatic period of a woman’s life. Pregnancy marks remarkable emotional, mental and physical changes in the woman’s body. Intense deal of excitement accompanies these changes, marked by anxiety and uncertainty. A woman, however, need not experience worries and sleepless nights. One can lead a better life during the duration of the pregnancy by being acquainted with and appreciating these changes.
The first pregnancy trimester is marked from conception to 12 or 14 weeks from the last normal menstrual cycle. A woman often experiences morning sickness (vomiting and nausea), tiredness, tender breast and frequent urination during this stage. To prevent nausea, it is recommended to take small frequent meals. The expectant mother may have alternate periods of activity and rest. The best exercise at this stage is walking.
Often considered as the “Golden Period” of pregnancy is the second trimester. During this stage, the physically demanding signs and symptoms of pregnancy have subsided. There are better sleep patterns, a paramount sign of advancement in the healthy pregnancy process. It is also during this time that the most joyful moment is experienced by the mother-to-be. The first heartbeat of the baby can be heard; moreover, an ultrasound usually done in around 19 weeks may make one feel the diverse movements of your bundle of joy. The ugly stretch marks, which is a cause for worries for women may become visible. Do not scratch the abdominal area to lessen the chances of pregnancy stretch marks.
The last of the pregnancy trimesters is the time when the fetus becomes too large to move in the uterus. The to-be moms may feel tired and experience shortness of breath due to the increased growth of the fetus. At the end of the third trimester, the fetus usually settles into a head-down position in the uterus. During this time, future parents should be well prepared for the birth of the baby.
Pregnancy also involves many changes in a woman’s lifestyle. Avoid detrimental substances such as nicotine and alcohol. Cigarette smoke can lead to low birth weight in babies as well as miscarriages and tubal pregnancies. Alcohol and other toxic chemicals and substances such as paint fumes are damaging to the mother and to the baby.
Prenatal nutrition is essential during pregnancy, so don’t diet and drink plenty of water, about 6 to 8 glasses a day. A diet containing the essential nutrients and vitamins are vital to the development of both mother and child and supplemental vitamins are necessary as well. Perform as much exercise as safely possible, and get plenty of sleep. Regular activity such as walking, yoga, and swimming during your pregnancy will help alleviate swelling, fatigue, and backache.
Giving birth will no doubt be one of the most magical moments of a woman’s life and to ensure that your child is strong and happy, it is important you do all you can to have a healthy pregnancy.
After giving birth, a paternity test can be done in the event that there’s a need to prove who the father of your baby is. The legal paternity testing requires a DNA material from both the baby and from the alleged father. The DNA paternity test is almost 100% accurate.

Loss of Control with Eating Disorders

Loss of Control with Eating Disorders
Eating disorders affect millions of people every year. The two most common forms are anorexia, where the person fears weight gain so much that they starve themselves, and bulimia, where the person binge eats and then makes themselves vomit or exercise continuously to prevent weight gain.
Reasons for Eating Disorders
There are many reasons why an eating disorder develops, but it usually stems from control issues in their life. It may be that a young girl begins going through puberty and feels a loss of control with the changes her body is going through. Some teens feel their parents are too critical and they can never live up to their standards, leaving them feeling worthless. It could be that a family is too close and suffocates certain members, or one member does not achieve the same level of accomplishments as the rest. Sometimes a family member dies or there is physical or sexual abuse in the family that leaves a person feeling helpless. Often, however, it is the image that Hollywood and magazines portray of super-thin models that leave everyday people feeling fat and inferior. In each of these cases, a person feels very unable to control their situation, and this kind of emotional stress can very easily lead to an eating disorder.
Controlling Life
With an eating disorder, a person feels they can at least gain some control in their lives. They control what they eat, even to the point of extremes, and because many people in our country can’t control their food intake to that point, it makes them feel good about themselves.
A family member with an eating disorder also controls their family and loved ones. By developing this life-encompassing, life-threatening condition, they make loved ones feel deeply concerned for them and even helpless.
But those with eating disorders are actually being controlled by the disorder, not the other way around. These people find themselves constantly confronted by the fact that they have wrapped their lives around food and their body image, and they are actually a prisoner to their disorder.
Eating Disorders and Substance Abuse
Eating disorders often go hand in hand with substance abuse, something that physicians and professionals are beginning to take note of. The risk factors for eating disorders are often the same as for substance abuse (low self-esteem, depression, history of abuse or unhealthy family relationships, and social pressures) and in fact, half of those with eating disorders also abuse alcohol or drugs. Sometimes the person uses the illegal substance to help prevent weight gain (as with cocaine or heroin), and other times the person self-medicates their emotional problems with drugs or alcohol. Drugs provide the same kind of control that food does for people that abuse them, and a big part of substance abuse, like eating disorders, is trying to gain control in their lives.
If you think someone you know may have an eating disorder, it is important to get them help quickly. Early intervention offers the best chance at recovery. Just like with substance abuse, a person recovering from an eating disorder will need to go through counseling and therapy to help resolve their control issues and the events that led up to the disorder. Once these patients begin to see what life has to offer, they can begin putting their thoughts and emotions back together and start enjoying life.

Slim and Lift

Slim and Lift
Kathleen Kirkwood never gave up on shoulder pads. They were the product her company had its roots in since 1983 when Kathleen developed “pints of pads”. Being one of the few successful women in her own start up company, she promoted her product on Oprah and prominent news stations and people began to take notice of this young career woman.
At the time, Kathleen was young and working essentially out of her apartment. She first developed her signature shoulder pads and for lack of better packaging options, placed them in pint-sized ice cream cartons she received from the deli downstairs. They were an instant hit. A few years later, she signed with QVC and the rest is practically history.
Although she refers to her successful-yet-gradual evolution with her company as “pretty darn slow,” Kathleen cites QVC as the one company the pushed her “to up the ante.”
They believe in me.
It was this encouragement that led Kathleen to develop two more equally (if not more successful) products; Bust-Ease and Sonic Slimmers.
Both of these products have been a hit with Kathleen’s celebrity fans. Lauren Conrad gave her models a little extra oomph during her show at L.A. fashion week with Bust-Ease, Helen Mirren wore one as well when she accepted her Oscar and Oprah featured both products on her show.
Bust-Ease works like the traditional “chicken cutlet” pieces but without the uncomfortable stickiness. “I thought of a cool light weight material that is 200% lighter than the gels and will stick to your bra and NOT your skin.”
The bra actually lifts your tissue to create a firmer and fuller top without having to resort to plastic surgery. Two of Kathleen’s favorite celebrities she’s worked with fell in love with Bust-Ease at first sight during the Emmy Awards.
Cheryl Hines was just so interested, Kathleen says. She thinks it is great to have other solutions, so you don’t need to go under the knife.
And [Girls Next Door] Kendra is just a riot; the funniest person I’ve ever met,” she adds. “She was very honest. Maybe she doesn’t need the product because of her implants, but she told me if she had to do it again she would just use Bust-Ease.”
On the other end of the spectrum, Sonic Slimmers helps to smooth out your body all over. Kathleen uses a Lycra-spandex mix to create this “modernized version of Spanx.” The spandex allows the wearer to feel the firmness of the product and the Lycra permits it to retain its shape no matter how many times you wash it.
Spanx are great, Kathleen says.We all love our Spanx, but Sonic Slimmers is a lighter softer version that smoothes out what you have beautifully.”
However, Kathleen isn’t stopping here. She is recently created a line of bras and panties made for older women who want a bit more coverage called Forever Young, and also sold 1.4 million of her new camisoles on QVC in just one day!
The “flirt skirt” is just another product Kathleen plans to debut in the next year. The line will consist of classic slips that have a bit more control in the hip and tummy area. French lace will line the bottom making those embarrassing slip peek-a-boos a thing of the past.

Natural Menopause Treatment

Natural Menopause Treatment
The medical community is quickly evolving its understanding of menopause. Following the abrupt, early halt to the HRT portion of the Women's Health Initiative last July, due to findings that Hormone Replacement Therapy's risks outweighed its benefits, headlines now read Menopause is not a disease, but a normal part of life." Hormone "replacement" therapy (HRT) has become simply hormone "therapy" (HT) in recognition of the fact that replacing estrogen is not natural and brings dangerous side-effects, rather than the fountain of youth once touted.
Shocking and novel as these concepts may be to today's medical community, they are nothing new to Maharishi Ayurveda, a consciousness-based natural medical system from ancient India. For over 5000 years, Ayurveda has acknowledged menopause as a natural transition, not a mistake of Mother Nature's that requires hormone replacement therapy. Maharishi Ayurveda reassures us that menopause can be health-promoting, spiritually-transforming and free of troublesome symptoms.
Experts today are affirming this positive view of menopause, stating that it is not natural to get weak bones, heart disease and rapid aging after menopause. Rather, osteoporosis, heart disease and other chronic health problems develop over a lifetime, resulting largely from poor diet, stress and lack of physical exercise. And hormone replacement therapy (HRT,) once heavily promoted as the medical solution to these problems, is no longer recommended for their treatment or prevention.
Menopause: A Balance Deficiency
What is recommended for the prevention of major health problems after menopause is a healthy lifestyle. And, according to Ayurveda, healthy living is also the best way to ease symptoms of the menopause transition itself. How balanced, or overall healthy you and your lifestyle are when you reach menopause largely determines how smooth your transition will be. If you are "burning the candle at both ends" in your 30's and early 40's, you are more likely to have mood swings, sleep problems and troublesome hot flashes when your hormones start to change. Whereas if you are have healthy lifestyle habits and are managing your stress effectively, you are likely to breeze through menopause without any major problems.
Health problems at menopause represent imbalances in the body that were already growing in the body and are unmasked by the stress of shifting hormones. Menopause symptoms are Nature's wake-up call to let you know you need to start paying more attention to your health. Age forty-five to fifty-five is a critical decade, according to Ayurveda. It provides the foundation on which your later health is laid. Just like putting money in your IRA, timely investing in your health can dramatically increase your "yield" of healthy years at midlife and beyond. Particularly if you have not been taking care of yourself in your 30's and 40's, making lifestyle changes now is critical to ensuring that you age gracefully without the burden of chronic health problems.
